S-Inkoom Football Academy eyes Division Two promotion, European opportunities for young talents

Speaking after his academy’s successful qualification for the Middle League, Inkoom praised the commitment and discipline of his players, describing their progress as a testament to hard work and dedication.

“First of all, I give thanks to God. These kids mean a lot to me. The most important thing is that they are learning and moving in the right direction,” he said.

According to him, the academy’s immediate target is to secure promotion to Division Two when the team competes in the Middle League this week.

“We are playing on Wednesday and we are hoping for the best. If they perform the same way they did today, they can qualify for Division Two,” he stated.

CAF’s Best African Referee for 2025, the Somali referee Omar Artan has been denied US entry for 2026 World Cup.

He was turned away at Miami airport despite diplomatic passport. He was set to be Somalia’s first World Cup referee.

The BBC reports that Omar Artan, who was set to be the first Somali to referee at the World Cup finals, has been dropped from the list of officials after he was denied entry to the United States.

Artan, the 2025 Confederation of African Football (CAF) men’s referee of the year, was barred from entering the country at Miami International Airport and is currently in Turkey.

UN Secretary-General appoints Ghana’s Edem Wosornu as Assistant High Commissioner for Protection

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Edem Wosornu of Ghana as Assistant High Commissioner for Protection at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, according to a statement released on Monday, June 8, 2026.

Wosornu will succeed Ruvendrini Menikdiwela of Sri Lanka. The Secretary-General and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees expressed gratitude for Menikdiwela’s dedicated service to the refugee cause.

The appointment recognises Wosornu’s extensive experience in humanitarian affairs, spanning over two decades, including leadership roles in emergency response and operational coordination.
