Ghana is expected to name a new head coach for the Black Stars within days, as authorities move to conclude a recruitment process aimed at steadying the national team ahead of key international assignments.

The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has indicated that an official announcement could be made as early as Monday, April 13, following weeks of consultations between the Ghana Football Association and shortlisted candidates.

Speaking in an interview with Citi TV, the Minister said the process had reached an advanced stage, with only a few final engagements remaining before a decision is taken.

Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has lifted the first major trophy of his career after playing a key role in Manchester City’s 2-0 victory over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final.

The 26-year-old, who only joined City during the January transfer window from AFC Bournemouth, completed the full 90 minutes as Pep Guardiola’s side secured the season’s first domestic silverware.

City’s victory was sealed in the second half through a brace from Nico O’Reilly, who delivered a match-winning performance to hand the Premier League champions the trophy. Semenyo, deployed largely on the right flank, also came close to getting on the scoresheet, narrowly missing the target with a curling effort after cutting inside.

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku scored his eighth Championship goal of the season on Tuesday night, but Leicester City squandered a three-goal lead to lose 4-3 at home to Southampton in a dramatic collapse at the King Power Stadium.

The Ghana international struck in the 29th minute to give Leicester a commanding 3-0 advantage before halftime. After controlling Divine Mukasa’s pass, Issahaku cut inside and fired an angled drive from distance beyond Southampton goalkeeper Omer Peretz.

Leicester appeared headed for victory after Mukasa opened the scoring in the ninth minute and Patson Daka added a second four minutes later. The Foxes dominated the opening period, limiting Southampton to rare attacking opportunities.

Retired Ghanaian referee Thomas Nunoo has revealed that he once turned down a bribe from football administrator Alhaji Karim Grusah during his officiating career.

In an interview with Asempa FM, Nunoo ”now serving as a CAF and FIFA instructor” said Grusah attempted to influence his decisions ahead of a Premier League match.

Nunoo disclosed that he reported the incident to the Premier League Board, then chaired by Welbeck Abra-Appiah.

“During my days of officiating games, I never accepted a bribe or being compromised,” he categorically said.
