Queenmother calls for Odwira suspension – But Krontihene says no

This year’s Odwira Festival of the people of Akuapem hangs in the balance as matters surrounding who succeeds the late Oseadeeyo Addo Dankwa III as the Okuapehene of the Akuapem Paramount stool, also known as Ofori Kuma Stool, remain in contention. 

This is because the Judicial Committees of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs and the National House of Chiefs declared the nomination and enstoolment of Odehye Kwasi Akuffo by the Paramount Queenmother, Nana Afua Nketiaa Obuo II, a nullity for not following due custom.

Nana Obuo II was installed to conduct the nomination and enstoolment following the death of Nana Dokua I, who had initiated the process.

Major fault at Ghana Gas processing plant triggers power supply disruptions

The Ghana Gas Processing Plant has suffered a technical fault following the complete failure of the Burner Management System controller for the Heat Medium System, leading to an emergency shutdown and curtailment of gas supply to thermal power plants.

In a joint press release issued on April 15, 2026, Ghana Gas and the Ghana Grid Company announced that the affected system is damaged and will require a full replacement.

“The public is hereby informed that the Ghana Gas Processing Plant has experienced a significant technical fault following the complete failure of the Burner Management System controller for the Heat Medium System. Preliminary assessments indicate that the affected system is damaged and will require a full replacement,” the statement read.

The National Identification Authority has released the full list of its premium centres across all 16 regions of Ghana, offering citizens access to enhanced card acquisition and related services at designated locations nationwide.

According to an official advisory from the authority’s Corporate Affairs Directorate, the premium centres are strategically located in regional capitals and key urban centres to provide efficient and expedited services to applicants. Unlike standard registration centres, premium centres typically offer faster processing times and dedicated customer service.

GIS rescues 305 foreign nationals including 113 children in anti-begging trafficking operation

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has rescued 305 West African nationals, including 113 children, in an intelligence-led anti-trafficking operation targeting organised street begging networks that exploit vulnerable foreign nationals.

The operation, conducted in the early hours of Wednesday, April 15, 2026, focused on areas within the Greater Accra Region, including Abossey Okai, Zongo Junction, Nima, Madina and Kaneshie.

According to a press release issued by the GIS, a total of 305 West African nationals were encountered during the exercise. This comprises 113 children, 66 adult women, and 126 adult men. Of the children rescued, 36 are male, and 77 are female.
