UCL Draw: Mohammed Kudus’ Spurs to face Thomas Partey’s Villarreal

Mohammed Kudus and Thomas Partey will square off in this season’s UEFA Champions League after Tottenham Hotspur paired Villareal in the draw held on Thursday in Monaco. 

Both players who joined their respective clubs in the summer transfer window will renew their club rivalry when Villareal travel to London to face the Europa League winners. Kudus and Partey have had interesting encounters in the past when Partey played for Arsenal in England.

While the two Ghana teammates relish the upcoming game, Spurs will also face Borussia Dortmund, Slavia Prague and FC Copenhagen at home.

The English club will travel to France to face European champions Paris Saint Germain and draw hosts AS Monoca. Other teams in Spurs’ lot are Bodo/Glimt and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Man Utd reject Mainoo loan request – how have we got here?

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has asked to leave Old Trafford on loan.

United have rejected the request, telling the academy graduate they value him and want him to stay and fight for his place.

It remains to be seen whether there are further conversations about the issue before the transfer deadline on Monday.

Mainoo, 20, played the full 90 minutes in Wednesday’s EFL Cup penalty shootout defeat at Grimsby.

However, he was an unused substitute for both of United’s opening Premier League games and head coach Ruben Amorim has told him he is fighting for a place with skipper Bruno Fernandes.

Mourinho leaves Fenerbahce after CL exit

Jose Mourinho has left his role as Fenerbahce boss after just over a year.

The Portuguese’s departure comes two days after the Turkish club were eliminated from the Champions League play-offs by Benfica.

In a statement, Fenerbahce said Mourinho had “parted ways” with the club, before thanking the 62-year-old for his efforts.

“We wish him success in his future career,” the statement added.

Assistant coach of Black Stars, John Paintsil, says he is confident of winning their upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers scheduled for next month. 

After back-to-back wins in March earlier this year, the senior national team will face Chad and Mali in the Matchday 7 and 8 games of the qualifiers.

Speaking ahead of the games, Paintsil stressed that the team is ready for the games but called on Ghanaians to offer the team the right support.

“We are ready for the task ahead, but I will call on Ghanaians to support the team ahead of these two games,” he told Asempa FM.
