Volta Region police intercept another vehicle with narcotics – Arresting team rejects GH¢120,000 from suspects

­Two men are helping the police in their investigations after a truck travelling from Kpando to Ashaiman was intercepted at Frankadua in the Eastern Region, as it was found to be loaded with 527 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected of being marijuana, concealed beneath a pile of wooden boards.

Although the driver of the truck with registration number GT 8280-24 and his mate fled the scene, two men who later claimed ownership of some items on board the truck were arrested.

The Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Akorli, told the Daily Graphic last Sunday, that the police operation, which led to the interception of the truck, followed a tip-off.

Govt to rename Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport – Mahama Ayariga

The government is preparing to place a bill before Parliament to change the name of the Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport, the Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga has disclosed.

He indicated that this was part of outlined bills and regulations expected to come before the House during the current meeting.

FDA urges public to stop buying foods sold near open gutters

The Food and Drugs Authority has urged the public to stop buying food sold near open gutters, warning that the practice puts public health at risk.

According to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the FDA in charge of Food Division, Mr Roderick Daddey-Adjei, the common habit of preparing and selling food in unhygienic surroundings continues to undermine efforts to improve food safety across the country.

“Food should not be sold by a gutter, and we will not defend that,” Mr Daddey-Adjei said during a radio interview on Citi FM on Tuesday [February 3, 2026].

A gynaecologist at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr Aisha Ali Issaka, has expressed concern that low uptake of vaccination and screening continues to undermine efforts to curb cervical cancer in the country.

In an interview with The Mirror last Thursday, Dr Ali Issaka said cervical cancer was among the most preventable cancers in women, yet many Ghanaians were failing to take advantage of available preventive measures.
