GTEC withdraws policy directive on retirement age and post-retirement contracts for academic senior members in public universities

Following a directive from the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has withdrawn a policy directive that prevented tertiary institutions from engaging and posting retired staff.

The ministry’s directive followed a meeting between the sector Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, and the leadership of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG).

The minister had directed GTEC to immediately withdraw its policy directive dated October 1, 2025, regarding retirement age and post-retirement contracts for Academic Senior Members of public universities.

Police re-arrest 3 escapees from Adabraka police station

Three out of six suspects who escaped from police custody at the Adabraka Police station in Accra have been re-arrested by the police.

The remaining three are still on the run, and the police are on a manhunt for them.

Meanwhile, the police have refuted reports suggesting that the suspects who escaped are linked to Sammy Gyamfi’s father-in-law’s murder case.

According to the police, the murder suspects were not in custody at the Adabraka Police Station, and therefore the escapees have no connection with that case.
