Security code betrayal: Washing bay attendant remanded for allegedly stealing friend’s GH¢46k for betting

The Nkawie Circuit Court has remanded a 21-year-old washing bay attendant into police custody for allegedly stealing GH¢46,306.90 from his friend and using the money for betting.

The accused, Dominic Fordjour, pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing and is expected to reappear before the court on June 15, 2026.

Police Chief Inspector Anthony Ohene Gyan, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Mr Robert Addo, that the complainant, Bernard Kyei, an electrical welder, and the accused were friends and residents of Afari near Nkawie in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.

The prosecutor said about six months ago, Fordjour accompanied Kyei to open a savings account at the Nkawie branch of GCB Bank, where an amount of GH¢46,306.90 was deposited.

President Mahama begins five day Belarus visit today

President John Dramani Mahama begins a five day state visit to Belarus today, with discussions expected to centre on agriculture, trade, education and investment cooperation between the two countries.

The visit was announced in a statement issued on June 5, 2026, by the Presidency. President Mahama is undertaking the trip at the invitation of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko.

During the visit, President Mahama is expected to hold bilateral talks with President Lukashenko in Minsk before participating in an expanded meeting involving ministers and senior officials from Ghana and Belarus.

The discussions are expected to cover a number of proposed agreements, including arrangements relating to agricultural mechanisation, export financing, education and trade cooperation.

11 Years on: June 3 disaster victims cry for GH¢40m damages

Eleven years after the devastating June 3 ‘Circle Disaster’, families of the 150 lives that perished and hundreds who got injured are still chasing the shadows of their GH¢40 million compensation following a protracted legal battle.

At a press conference and wreath-laying ceremony held at the disaster site yesterday to commemorate the tragedy, the lawyer for the victims, Etornam Caleb Afutu, disclosed that the demand for compensation for the affected persons had been dragging on in court for the past eight years.

Lawyer Afutu explained that the victims were seeking GH¢40 million compensation from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and GOIL PLC for the loss of 150 lives, injuries, and destruction of property caused by the disaster, which was a blot on the nation.

He explained that although the legal process had been lengthy, significant progress had so far been made so far in the case.

Ex-convict allegedly sealed teenager’s mouth with super glue, raped and murdered her – Police

The Western Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest and remand of a 45-year-old ex-convict, Kudjo Ntow, for the alleged rape and murder of his wife’s 17-year-old niece, Olivia Kwofie, at Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region.

The incident occurred in the early hours of June 1, 2026. According to a police statement issued on June 4, Ntow allegedly sealed the victim’s mouth with super glue, forcibly raped her, and then murdered her before fleeing into hiding.

The police report indicates that at approximately 3:30am on the day of the incident, a witness named Samuel Kingsford Kwofie was on his way to his rubber plantation when he heard someone shouting for help near the School B area, close to the Fire Service Station at Agona Nkwanta. Upon approaching the scene, he found Olivia Kwofie sitting naked on the ground with both her hands and legs tied with a rope.
