A marriage counselor, Pastor Sampson Agyei has noted that divorces are increasingly prevalent in recent times because marriages are now perceived as contractual agreements rather than sacred covenants founded on genuine love and affection.
During an interview on GIFTS FM morning show, hosted by Kwaku Mensah Abrampa, the Man of God underscored that marriage should not be regarded as a mere relationship susceptible to dissolution at the whim of the parties involved. Instead, it must be perceived as a sacred covenant among three parties: the bride, the groom, and God.
He highlighted that the current trend of marriages falling apart is due to their transformation into mere contracts between a man and a woman, rather than the covenant they are meant to be. He noted that unrealistic expectations arise because individuals often enter into marriage out of desperation, an urgent need for financial or other forms of assistance, and without genuine love or affection. This lack of foundational love inevitably leads to the disintegration of such marriages.Pastor Sampson Agyei remarked that Genesis Chapter 2:24 declares: “For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” He underscored that no scientist can substantiate such a biblical union where two souls merge into one.
He further stressed that the disintegration of many marriages arises from individuals entering into matrimony based on theories because the biblical concept of leaving and cleaving in marriages has lost its efficacy, thus explaining the modern generation’s inability to forsake their parents, who were once pivotal figures, to unite with their partners, another significant person encountered in life, leading to the persistent breakdown of marriages.
