A sea of candlelight illuminated Accra’s Independence Square over the weekend as thousands of Ghanaians paid tribute to the late highlife legend, Daddy Lumba. The solemn vigil—organized by fans and cultural organizations—was a breathtaking display of love, respect, and national unity for one of Ghana’s most iconic musicians.

🌟 A Cultural Giant Remembered

Born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, Daddy Lumba was not only a household name but a trailblazer in Ghanaian music. With a career spanning four decades, he delivered timeless classics like Aben Wo Ha, Theresa, and Odo Bewu Dee. His smooth vocals, provocative lyrics, and evolving style kept him relevant through multiple generations.

💡 Night of Reflection and Tribute

At the vigil, crowds sang along to Lumba’s greatest hits while holding candles and portraits of the late artist. From the elderly to the youth, attendees expressed how his music helped them through life’s milestones—love, heartbreak, celebration, and grief.

Prominent musicians, government officials, and religious leaders took turns speaking about the legacy he leaves behind.

💬 Voices from the Crowd

“Lumba was like a father to all of us. His music healed hearts,” said Ama Serwaa, 34, a vendor who traveled from Kumasi.

“There’ll never be another like him,” a tearful young man told JoyNews.

🕊️ The Road Ahead

The vigil is only the beginning of a series of national memorials planned to honour Daddy Lumba. His funeral arrangements are expected to be state-supported, with debates already rising about building a museum in his name.
