Trade Minister Inaugurates New Governing Board for Ghana Trade Fair Company, Urges Strategic Repositioning

The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has officially inaugurated a new Governing Board for the Ghana Trade Fair Company Limited (GTFCL), charging the members with the critical task of reviving the institution and repositioning it to fulfill its core mandate after a prolonged period of inactivity and underperformance.

The inauguration ceremony took place on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, and marked a significant step toward restoring the operational relevance and financial sustainability of the once-vibrant national institution.

In her address, Hon. Ofosu-Adjare acknowledged that GTFCL has, over the years, fallen short in delivering on its legally established mandate. While some limited efforts have been made, she noted that substantial work remains to be done. She emphasized the need for bold reforms, forward-thinking leadership, and a cohesive vision to transform the company into a profitable and strategically relevant entity in Ghana’s industrial and trade landscape.

“It is an open secret that for some time now, the Ghana Trade Fair Company Limited has not been able to effectively fulfill its statutory mandate. Though some efforts have been made, a significant part of its potential remains untapped,” the Minister remarked.

She added that the new board has been carefully constituted by President John Dramani Mahama, who sees in the members a wealth of experience, professional knowledge, and social capital necessary to breathe new life into the company.

“His Excellency the President has great expectations of this board. He believes that with your diverse expertise and networks, you can lead the transformation of the Ghana Trade Fair Company Limited into a profitable and respected institution. I urge you to examine the company’s past, assess the current landscape, and chart a realistic, forward-looking path for the future,” Hon. Ofosu-Adjare stated.

She encouraged the board to approach the task with diligence, unity, and a results-oriented mindset, highlighting that the nation’s economic development agenda, particularly in trade and industry, depends in part on institutions like GTFCL regaining their functional capacity and national relevance.

He reiterated the board’s readiness to confront the institution’s long-standing challenges, revamp its strategic operations, and explore new partnerships and opportunities to ensure long-term profitability and sustainability.

Looking Ahead

The Ghana Trade Fair Company Limited, once a symbol of Ghana’s commercial diplomacy and industrial pride, has in recent years seen diminished activity, infrastructural decay, and a lack of strategic focus. The newly constituted board is expected to address these challenges head-on by implementing reforms, modernizing operations, and repositioning the Trade Fair site as a dynamic hub for business exhibitions, trade partnerships, and economic innovation.

The inauguration of the new board signals a renewed national effort to re-energize public sector institutions and unlock their potential to support Ghana’s broader economic transformation agenda.
