Gold board is set to start gold refinery in Ghana

The Ghana Gold Board is set to commence domestic gold refining through a new collaboration with the Bank of Ghana and several local refineries starting in October 2025, t

This initiative was revealed by the Board’s CEO, Sammy Gyamfi, during the inaugural Mining and Minerals Convention held in Accra on Tuesday, September 9.

Mr. Gyamfi emphasized that the move is part of a strategic push to enhance value creation within Ghana’s gold industry and strengthen the country’s economic foundation.

He expressed concern over Ghana’s continued export of unrefined doré gold despite its prominent status as a leading producer in Africa, calling it a “national shame.”

Under President Mahama’s reset agenda, the Gold Board working alongside the central bank and refineries like Gold Coast Refinery plans to begin refining gold locally, rather than exporting it in raw form. This shift is set to take effect next month.
