Government Has Disbursed Over GH¢2 Billion to Boost Local Development – Vice President

Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has announced that the government has allocated more than two billion Ghana cedis through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) to enhance development efforts at the grassroots level.

Speaking at the National Dialogue on Decentralization and Responsive Governance, she emphasized that this substantial funding reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening local governance and improving service delivery across districts.

The two-day event, themed “Resetting Decentralization for Responsive Local Governance and Effective Service Delivery,” convened key stakeholders and development partners to explore reforms and strategies for more effective local administration.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted that the direct transfer of funds to local authorities marks a significant shift in resource distribution, aiming to ensure fairness and accountability in how development projects are executed.

“This level of financial support is unprecedented, and it shows our determination to make decentralization meaningful and impactful,” she stated.

She also stressed the importance of aligning development initiatives with the actual needs of communities, advocating for a data-driven approach to planning and implementation.
