Ghana’s performance at the 2025 Hockey Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt has been described as commendable by Isaac Graham, Executive Board Member of the Ghana Hockey Association, despite the men’s team missing out on a podium finish.
The women’s team secured silver after falling 4-0 to South Africa in the final, while the men’s side placed fifth. South Africa will represent Africa at the upcoming Hockey World Cup in both categories.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Graham praised both teams, noting that although the men didn’t medal, their youthful squad gained valuable international experience.
“It was a very good performance. We hoped for podium finishes for both teams, and at least the ladies achieved that,” he said.
He emphasized that the men’s team, made up largely of first-time international players, will benefit from the exposure and build on the experience going forward.
Individual accolades also highlighted Ghana’s success: Dorothy Ngissah was named Best Goalkeeper, and Mavis Berko emerged as Top Scorer in the women’s division.
