The head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, has praised goalkeepers Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Joseph Wollacott for supporting and pushing new goalkeeper Benjamin Asare to get the best out of him.The three goalkeepers were called up to the Black Stars squad for the March international break for matches against Chad and Madagascar in Group.
Speaking after Ghana’s wins against the two opponents, coach Otto Addo disclosed that Benjamin Asare is now the number one goalkeeper for the Black Stars. He further applauded the positive attitude of Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Joseph Wollacott in supporting the new goalkeeper.“
At the moment, he’s the number one. We decided for him. He did well in training. Like I said, it’s not like he’s here and the others are there. So, we have a good situation where the goalkeepers are pushing each other, really, really helpful. The way Ati-Zigi and Wolcott also behaved during this week. And the way they also tried to push Benjamin to help him, to support him, which is not that common,” Coach Otto Addo said.
The Black Stars coach continued, “I don’t take it for granted, but big, big props for them for pushing him, for giving him hints, you know. And this is good teamwork. And Benjamin really deserved it. He did well in the league but also in the training, the little training we had, he did very, very well, and I’m happy for him.”Benjamin Asare, with his opportunities to keep the post for Ghana in the games against Chad and Madagascar kept back-to-back clean sheets.
He will be eager to earn another call-up to the national team when the Black Stars resume for their next assignment.
