Ghana @69: Our greatest strength is unity and social cohesion — Ibrahim Adjei

The Resident Country Director at International Investments LLC, Ibrahim Adjei, has commended Ghanaians for maintaining unity and resilience despite economic challenges since independence.

He said beyond economic indicators and statistics, the country has achieved important intangible progress such as tolerance, fraternity, and social cohesion among citizens.

Speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily show on Monday, March 9, Adjei credited Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, for laying the foundation for national unity through policies that encouraged integration across ethnic and regional lines.

According to him, the country’s educational system, particularly the boarding school structure, played a key role in bringing young people from different backgrounds together and fostering a shared national identity.

“Notwithstanding the economic difficulties that the decades, the last 69 years have given us, we are indeed a singular nation in the way in which we relate to each other,” he said.

He added that such developments are often overlooked when assessing Ghana’s national progress because they are not easily captured in statistical surveys.

“It’s not all about the macro statistics. These are some of the intangible developments and transformations that are not quite captured in a statistical survey, such as how tolerant we have become of each other as a people,” he noted.

Adjei further explained that the country’s  political system has also reinforced unity by ensuring that political parties are not formed along tribal or regional lines.

He said the integration of different ethnic and religious groups within political and social structures has strengthened the country’s sense of collective identity and purpose over the years.
