The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Bernard Bediako Baidoo popularly called Lawyer, has given the government a significant win by emerging victorious at the Akwatia by-election.  In the official results from the Electoral Commission, Bediako received 18,199 of the total number of valid votes cast.The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Kwame Asumadu, who was his closest opponent, received 15,235 votes. Man sentenced to 4 years in prison for defrauding female police officer

A circuit court in Accra has sentenced a 30-year-old trader who defrauded a female police officer of GHC308,000 to four years in prison. Popular TikToker Osanju confirmed dead

Netizens have been struck by the sudden passing of popular Ghanaian TikToker, Elvis Frimpong, popularly known as Osanju.

According to reports gathered by GhanaWeb, Osanju died in the early hours of Monday, September 1, 2025, after a long battle with blood cancer (leukemia).

Sources indicate that his last social media post was on August 31, 2025, in which he expressed disappointment with FC Barcelona following their 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano.

Prior to his untimely death, Osanju opened up in an interview with Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu, revealing how he had been accused of faking his illness to solicit funds online.

Ghana Tourism Authority denies altering ‘ Woezor’ and ‘’Akwaaba’ signage at Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has refuted claims circulating on social media that it has replaced the culturally significant inscriptions “Woezor” (Ewe) and “Akwaaba” (Akan) with the word “Oobake” on the signage at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.

In a statement dated August 28, 2025, and signed by the Chief Executive Officer, Maame  Efua Houadjeto, the GTA clarified that it never authorised or approved any alteration to the existing inscriptions, which remain intact as symbols of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage. 

The Authority emphasised that any change to signage at the national monument would require consultation with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the relevant agency.

Dutch tactician Rene Hiddink rejects Heart of Oak’s settlement talk after FIFA decision

Rene Hiddink has decided to not to talk with Heart of Oak after FIFA ordered the Ghanaian club to pay the Dutch tactician $150,000 for unlawfully terminating his contract. 

Hiddink joined the Phobians on a three-year deal in 2023 but left the job after eight months. Hearts decided to end the contract and failed to pay the rest of money owed him, forcing Hiddink to seek redress from FIFA.

A case he won with the world governing body ordering Hearts to settle the amount while also facing a transfer ban.

Following the decision, the club has reportedly made contact with Hiddink’s camp but according to his legal representative, David Winnie, the Dutchman opted against the meeting.

2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers: Derrick Arthur Köhn earns debut Black Stars call-up

Germany-born defender Derrick Arthur Köhn has been handed his debut call-up to play for Ghana.

The left-back is in the Black Stars squad named by coach Otto Addo for the games against Chad and Mali in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup next month.

Kohn has been on the radar of the technical team for a while and will now have the opportunity to prove his worth to the Black Stars.

The footage, dated August 17, 2025, has sparked outrage on social media, with netizens criticising the conduct of the medical staff involved.

Prophet Kofi Oduro, the General Overseer of Alabaster International Ministries, has expressed disappointment while addressing his congregation.

According to him, many healthcare professionals in Ghana have become “heartless” and appear to have lost their sense of compassion and humanity.
