Akwatia by-election: NDC emerge victorious

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Bernard Bediako Baidoo popularly called Lawyer, has given the government a significant win by emerging victorious at the Akwatia by-election.  In the official results from the Electoral Commission, Bediako received 18,199 of the total number of valid votes cast.The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Kwame Asumadu, who was his closest opponent, received 15,235 votes. AKWATIA BY-ELECTION: One person arrested after chaos emerged

 One person has been arrested and placed into a designated Black Maria after being accused of tearing down a candidate’s posters at the NDC party office in Akwatia, causing chaos. The Black Maria is a police van used for prisoner transportation.Authorities cautioned that any interference with the electoral process, including acts of violence or intimidation, would be met with strict action.  The police’s swift intervention ensured that voting proceeded without any disruptions. Eligible voters in the Akwatia constituency are voting today, Tuesday, September 2, to elect a new Member of Parliament in respect to the death of their original appointee, Ernest Kumi.
