Real cause of Junior Pope’s death revealed
The National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, of Nigeria has revealed the boat mishap which happened on Anam River in Anambra State in 2024, involving Nollywood actor Junior Pope and four others, was due to human error and not mechanical fault.
Managing Director of NIWA, Bola Oyebamiji, made the disclosure during a multi-modal transportation stakeholders forum in Abuja on Thursday.
According to him, some of the passengers on board before the fatality happened rejected life jackets offered to them.
“It was not mechanical failure, not impediments in the water or weather challenges, but purely a flagrant disregard for rules and regulations guiding movement on the inland waterways,” Oyebamiji said.

Charles Kojo Fosu, affectionately known across Ghana and beyond as Daddy Lumba, was born on September 29, 1964, in Nsuta, located in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. He was the beloved son of Comfort Gyamfi, widely known as Ama Saah, and Owoahene Kwadwo Fosu. Both parents were dedicated educators who inspired excellence and resilience in their children.
Tragically, Lumba lost his father at an early age. His mother, Ama Saah, passed away in 2001, a loss that profoundly affected him. She was his guiding light, and her memory lives on through several of his emotionally charged songs, including “Anidasoɔ Wɔhɔ Ma Obiara,” “Ohia Asɛm,” “Ɛmmere Pa Bɛba,” and “Agya Bi Wua Agya Bi Tease.”
