Eligible voters in the Akwatia constituency are voting today, Tuesday, September 2, to elect a new Member of Parliament in respect to the death of their original appointee, Ernest Kumi.
The Electoral Commission has opened 119 polling places throughout the constituency to facilitate the electoral process. Approximately 50,000 registered voters will participate in the by-election.
They, however, assured the public of transparency and credibility in the exercise, and special arrangements have been made to guarantee the timely delivery of electoral materials, close monitoring, and efficient collation of results.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Bernard Bediako Baidoo is running against Solomon Kwame Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Both candidates have run vigorous campaigns with the help of national executives and senior party leaders who have visited the constituency.
The Ghana Police Service has deployed about 5,500 officers spread throughout Akwatia to protect the process and to protect public peace before, during, and after the voting process.
