Former Majority Leader in Parliament Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu has raised concerns about the capabilities of Ghana coach Otto Addo, insisting the latter cannot lead the team at the 2026 World Cup tournament to be staged in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The West African football heavyweights returned to winning ways on Monday night after securing a hard-fought win against Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium. Before this crucial game, Ghana had played out a 1-1 draw against Chad in N’Djamena
Alexander Djiku, who recently switched from Fenerbahce to Russian giants Spartak Moscow emerged as the hero, scoring the only goal to snatch victory on home turf to strengthen their lead in Group I.
While expressing optimism about the Black Stars World Cup qualification, Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu has casted doubts about the capabilities of Otto Addo.
“I’m sure Ghana is going to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, but Otto Addo is not a coach that can lead us to the tournament. I see Mali as the strongest opponent in our group, unfortunately they did not start the qualification series well. It is too late for them to secure qualification. For Madagascar, who are trailing us with 16 points can’t win the two remaining games” he told Wontumi FM.
Currently, the West African powerhouse sit top of Group I, accumulating 19 points after eight matches, followed by Madagascar (16 points), Comoros (15points), Mali (12), Central Africa Republic (5), with Chad securing just a point.
Ghana will regroup in October for the final round of the 2026 World Cup qualification. The Black Stars will face Central African Republic in an away clash before hosting Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium.
