A 25-year-old woman, Vera Akosua Asare, has been ordered to stand trial at the Koforidua High Court on October 13, following allegations that she caused the death of her ex-boyfriend in a brutal acid attack.
The District Court in Koforidua concluded preliminary hearings and committed Vera to trial for manslaughter. During the proceedings, she reportedly admitted to the facts presented by prosecutors.
The victim, 29-year-old Daniel Omane, was a mobile phone dealer who suffered severe burns after Vera allegedly poured acid on him while he was asleep in December 2024. Despite undergoing multiple surgeries at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, he died after months of treatment.
Investigations revealed that the couple had a rocky relationship marked by frequent arguments and suspicions of infidelity. Vera, who lived with Omane and their two-year-old daughter, was known to confront women she believed were romantically involved with him. The attack reportedly occurred shortly after Omane ended their relationship.
Neighbors rushed to help after hearing his screams and handed Vera over to police. She was initially held in custody but later released on bail to care for their child. After Omane’s death, the charges were upgraded from causing harm to manslaughter.
The case is being prosecuted by Eastern Regional State Attorney Emily Addo-Kyereh, with support from CID investigators and an autopsy report from Korle Bu the gravity of the case.
