The Ashanti Regional Police Command has issued a public advisory on road closures in Kumasi ahead of the one-week funeral observances for the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the age of 98.
The passing of the revered queen mother was formally announced by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, during a meeting of the Asanteman Council on Monday, August 11, 2025, sending waves of mourning across the Ashanti Region and the nation.
In an official press statement, DSP Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Relations for the Ashanti Regional Police, confirmed that all major roads leading to the Manhyia Palace would be closed on Thursday, August 21, 2025, to facilitate the smooth conduct of the week-long funeral rites.
Authorities have urged all motorists to comply with traffic diversion plans and parking arrangements to prevent congestion. The police have also prohibited the entry of rickshaws, tricycles, and motorbikes in and around the palace precincts during the events, citing security and safety considerations.
To support accessibility for mourners and visitors, shuttle services will be provided from strategic locations, including the Asawasi Methodist Park and the Central Mosque Car Park, ensuring orderly transport to and from the palace.
DSP Ahianyo emphasized that the measures are necessary to safeguard both participants and the integrity of the funeral rites, which are steeped in Ashanti cultural traditions.
Residents and visitors are advised to plan their travel accordingly and to respect all directives issued by the police during this solemn period.
