Dr.Zanetor Calls for Probe into Alleged Land Encroachment at Accra’s CMB Abuja Market

Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has called on the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate claims that private developers are unlawfully occupying land at the Accra CMB Abuja Market.

Her appeal follows a protest held on Tuesday by traders and transport operators in the area, who allege that land owned by the Ghana Railway Development Authority is being taken over without proper authorization.

The traders say the situation has forced many of them onto the streets, worsening traffic flow and posing safety hazards in the bustling commercial zone.

Addressing the media, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings demanded clarity from the government regarding the rightful ownership of the land and its intended use. She strongly criticized the ongoing developments, asserting that the land is public property and should not be handed over to private entities without transparency.

She further urged the Minister of Transport—who oversees the Railway Development Authority—to provide clear direction on the matter. Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings emphasized the need for accountability, stating that the confusion is destabilizing livelihoods in the area.

Highlighting the significance of the market to Ghana’s informal economy, she stressed that the issue affects a large segment of the population and must be addressed urgently. Her call for EOCO’s involvement aims to ensure that any irregularities are thoroughly investigated and resolved.
