Ghana defender Alidu Seidu describes return from long injury layoff as “crazy”

Black Stars defender Alidu Seidu has described his return to competitive action after a lengthy injury layoff as both “crazy” and emotional.

The 25-year-old was sidelined for 250 days after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, which kept him out of 24 games for French Ligue 1 side Rennes and nearly a year away from the national team.

Seidu’s long-awaited return came against Lorient, a game Rennes lost 4-0, but for the versatile defender, stepping back onto the pitch was a victory in itself.

“The moment I stepped on the pitch, I was so happy. The ACL was my biggest and longest injury. Coming back was crazy and weird at the same time, but I was just waiting for this day,” Seidu said in an interview with Flashscore.com

He has since built momentum, featuring against Lyon before delivering a man-of-the-match performance against Nantes, where he registered an assist and reminded fans of the tenacity that made him a key figure for Rennes before his injury.

Looking ahead, Seidu has set clear ambitions for the season.

“My goal is to get a lot of minutes, to give everything so Rennes can qualify for Europe. I’m convinced this season we can do good things,” he added.

Seidu’s return is also a timely boost for Ghana, as the Black Stars prepare for crucial international fixtures against the Central African Republic and Comoros in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
