The Minister for Health, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has said the government has provided safe and free oral vaccines for cholera at health facilities in Ablekuma in the Greater Accra Region, Awutu and Cape Coast in the Central Region.
Mr Akandoh, therefore, encouraged Ghanaians to visit designated health centres to get the free vaccines and urged local radio stations, religious bodies, local government authorities as well as the Environmental Protection Agency to support the cholera prevention campaign.
The Minister said this during a visit to Winneba and Swedru Municipal hospitals in the Central Region.
He emphasised the importance of maintaining good hygiene practices, such as eating hot meals, drinking clean water and washing hands regularly to prevent cholera.
He indicated that there was a significant decrease in cholera cases, with no deaths recorded in the past three weeks and expressed satisfaction with the efforts of health facilities to set up isolation centers for cholera patients.
He also highlighted the role of health workers, especially those at CHPS compounds in promoting personal hygiene.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean and safe environment to prevent the disease.
