The Minority in Parliament has petitioned the Speaker to act swiftly to uphold constitutional provisions and parliamentary protocols following an attempted arrest of the Assin South MP, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, has raised serious concerns about the relationship between security agencies and elected representatives.
According to the Minority, the attempt by operatives of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to arrest the MP at his Spintex residence was carried out without regard for the laid-down procedures required when dealing with sitting Members of Parliament.
The Minority’s Chief Whip, Frank Annoh Dompreh, expressed these concerns in a formal memorandum to the Speaker.
The memo emphasized the importance of respecting the privileges of Parliament and warned that failure to do so could undermine the authority and independence of the legislature.
The attempted arrest is reportedly linked to ongoing investigations into suspected drug trafficking and money laundering activities involving two international flights that passed through Ghana in March 2025.
