President John Dramani Mahama refers electoral violence report to Attorney-General for Swift legal action…..

President John Dramani Mahama has forwarded a detailed report on electoral violence from the 2020 and 2024 general elections to the Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, for legal assessment and recommendations.

The report, prepared by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, highlights a series of violent incidents that occurred during both elections. These include shootings and confrontations between political party supporters and security personnel, resulting in several casualties. According to the findings, eight people died during the 2020 elections, while three more lost their lives in the 2024 polls.

The submission by the IGP comes in response to a directive issued by President Mahama shortly after assuming office. The move aligns with growing demands from civil society organizations for greater accountability and transparency in addressing politically motivated violence.

By tasking the Attorney-General with the report, the President seeks to identify appropriate legal actions to ensure justice for victims and to develop safeguards against future electoral violence.

The presidency has reiterated its commitment to the rule of law and to strengthening public trust in Ghana’s democratic processes.
