Trial of Former PPA Boss Resumes Over Alleged Procurement Breaches

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has resumed court proceedings against Adjenim Boateng Adjei, the former Chief Executive of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), over multiple allegations of procurement-related misconduct.

Mr. Adjei, who was dismissed in 2020 following a corruption exposé, is facing eight charges of using public office for personal gain and nine counts of manipulating procurement processes to secure unfair advantages in government contracts.

The case, which has been ongoing for two years, has drawn significant public attention due to its implications for transparency and accountability in public service. The OSP alleges that Mr. Adjei exploited his position at the PPA to promote private business interests, violating the Public Procurement Act.

In a related development, his brother-in-law, Francis Kwaku Arhin, has also been charged with one count of using public office for profit.

The trial took a new turn earlier this year when prosecutors filed additional charges, expanding the scope of the investigation. The OSP also revealed that Mr. Adjei allegedly withdrew funds from previously frozen bank accounts in 2022, raising further concerns about asset management linked to the case.

The Special Prosecutor has assured the public of its commitment to pursuing the matter to its logical conclusion.
