Wembanyama Drops 40 Points in Spurs’ Opening Win

San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama made a dominant return to the court, scoring 40 points and grabbing 15 rebounds in just 30 minutes during the team’s 125-92 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in their opening game of the 2025–2026 NBA season.

The 7-foot-5 French star also recorded three blocks, showcasing his defensive prowess against top rookie Cooper Flagg, who managed 10 points and 10 rebounds in 32 minutes.

Wembanyama, whose previous season was cut short by a shoulder injury, said he felt more in control of his body and game this time around.

“I’m having more fun now that I’m not struggling to move as much. I know I still need to get better, and I’m still going to get better,” he told ESPN after the game.

Last season, Wembanyama led the league in blocks, averaging 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, and 3.8 blocks across 46 games.

The performance sets a strong tone for the Spurs, while fans and analysts continue to watch Wembanyama’s evolution as one of the NBA’s rising stars.
