Residents of Kukurantumi set fire in front of the police station in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region after a suspect allegedly died while in police custody.
What began as shock and grief among residents quickly turned into anger, with sections of the youth marching to the Kukurantumi Police Station to vent their frustration.

Police officers were immediately deployed to contain the situation, but their efforts were met with fierce resistance. Some members of the crowd pelted stones at the officers, escalating tensions.
In response, the police fired warning shots into the air in a bid to disperse the angry youth and prevent further destruction.
The incident has left the community shaken. Many residents say they feel betrayed by the very institution meant to protect them, and they are demanding answers about what led to the suspect’s death in custody.
