EOCO boss Raymond Archer is now my best friend; all he did was ‘God-ordained’ – Shatta Wale on his arrest

Dancehall musician, Shatta Wale has spoken about how his arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Officer (EOCO) has positively impacted the youth and educated Ghanaians on purchasing property.

In an interview with Joy Prime on October 15, 2025, the ‘On God’ singer explained that his ordeal with EOCO has led to him being a “best friend” to the Deputy EOCO Director, Raymond Archer.

Wale emphasised that although the public may have a different perspective about the arrest, to him, it was “God-ordained” to enable the youth to be educated on how to rightly acquire property without any blemish.

“Raymond Archer is now my best friend because I feel God sent him for us to educate the people of Ghana (on how to buy car appropriately from the right source). So, that is one of the problems we have solved in this country and I think he has tried. Maybe, people might think he arrested me and all that but all what he did was God-ordained.

“He’s really opened our eyes to certain things. So, I think it’s about time the youth has to be wise and know how to purchase property,” Wale noted.

Shatta Wale was arrested and detained by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) in August 2025 in connection with a stolen Lamborghini.

The investigation, a joint operation with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), involves a Lamborghini Urus (yellow) that was seized from his home and is linked to an international fraud case.

The 2019 Lamborghini Urus was identified by the FBI and the U.S. Justice Department as being purchased with the proceeds of a $4 million fraud scheme. The criminal mastermind, Nana Kwabena Amuah, is a Ghanaian who is currently serving a prison sentence in the U.S.

During interrogation by officials of EOCO , Shatta Wale was unable to provide proper documentation for the vehicle. He claimed to have bought the car “from the street” through a WhatsApp contact named “Zak,” whose identity he could not confirm and whose contact he claimed to have discarded.

Shatta Wale was initially granted bail of GH¢10 million but remained in custody pending verification of his sureties’ properties. His bail was later reduced to GH¢5 million, and he was released after meeting the revised conditions.
