The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced new youth player quotas for the 2025/26 season as part of its drive to promote player development and ensure a steady pathway for young talents.
Under the new rules, Ghana Premier League (GPL) clubs must name at least four U-19 players in every matchday squad, with a minimum of two seeing action in each game. Division One League (DOL) teams will be required to include six U-19 players per squad, with at least three starting matches.
The requirement is even higher in Division Two, where clubs must register eight U-19 players in their matchday squads, with a minimum of four in the starting line-up.
According to the GFA, the policy aims to accelerate the growth of young players by guaranteeing consistent competitive minutes, thereby strengthening the national player pool for future domestic and international competitions.
The move is part of the Association’s broader youth development strategy, which also includes regional colts competitions, football academies, and grassroots initiatives to identify and nurture emerging talent across the country.
