Two men accused of robbing passengers at Mallam Junction in Accra have been remanded by the Weija Circuit Court, while a third suspect managed to escape police custody.
The suspects Stephen Amoani, 42, and Osei Antwi, 30 were arraigned on October 20, 2025, and pleaded not guilty. They are expected to reappear in court on November 10.
Their alleged accomplice, Kwame Mike, fled on October 16 after asking to use the washroom at the Weija Police Station. The officer who escorted him has been detained and is assisting with internal investigations.
The robbery occurred when police from the Amanfro District Command responded to intelligence about an ongoing attack at Mallam Junction.
Four suspects were involved; three were arrested, including Mike, while the fourth Kofi Sammy escaped with a pump-action gun.
Items recovered during the arrest included a cutlass, a black Honda CR-V with trade plate DV 3145–2025, three gallons of akpeteshie, GH₵12,055 in cash, and three mobile phones. Police believe these were stolen during the robbery.
Efforts are underway to rearrest both Mike and Sammy. The Accra Regional Police Command has urged the public to provide credible information to aid in their capture and prevent future crimes.
The incident has sparked renewed concerns about suspect supervision and detention protocols within the Ghana Police Service.
