Three Asempaneye Youth Jailed 75 Years for Highway Robbery

The Ashanti North Police Command has confirmed that three young men have been convicted and handed a total of 75 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

The ruling was delivered on Thursday, September 26, 2025, by the Offinso Circuit Court presided over by Paul Oduro Esq.

The convicts, 22-year-old Nasiru Abdul-Malik, 23-year-old Solomon Kwaku Annor Clinton, and 20-year-old Hakeem Ibrahim, all residents of Asempaneye, pleaded guilty.

Each received 10 years for conspiracy and 15 years for robbery, to be served concurrently.

According to a police statement dated September 29, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on September 23, 2025. A DAF trailer truck transporting fertiliser from Tema to Wa broke down at Asempaneye along the Kumasi-Techiman Highway.

While the vehicle was being repaired at a vulcanising shop, the three, armed with an axe, machete, and scissors, attacked the driver and his mate.

The attackers stole two smartphones, a keypad phone, two bags with personal belongings, and GH¢140 cash. However, the youth of Asempaneye quickly apprehended them the same day and recovered the stolen items.

During investigations, the suspects confessed to the crime and were later sent to the Kumasi Central Prisons to begin their sentences.

The Ashanti North Police Command praised the vigilance of the residents of Asempaneye for their role in the arrests and assured the public of its dedication to combating crime and ensuring safety in the region.
