Energy Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Petroleum Hub Project

Ghana’s Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has reaffirmed government’s dedication to the Petroleum Hub Project, describing it as a key driver of the country’s energy and economic transformation.

Speaking during a visit to the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) in Accra on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, Jinapor praised the Corporation’s efforts to position Ghana as a competitive destination for energy investment. He emphasized that the Petroleum Hub is not merely an infrastructure initiative but a bold strategy to attract global capital, generate employment, and support Ghana’s shift toward a value-based energy economy.

“The Petroleum Hub is not just an infrastructure project — it is a bold vision to attract major global investment, create jobs, and anchor Ghana’s transition to a value-driven energy economy,” Jinapor stated.

The Minister pledged full government backing for the project and encouraged PHDC staff to uphold professionalism, innovation, and neutrality. He also hinted at upcoming stakeholder consultations to refine the project’s implementation and ensure long-term sustainability.

Welcoming the Minister, Acting CEO Dr. Toni Aubynn expressed gratitude for the visit and reiterated PHDC’s commitment to advancing the hub. He cited international examples such as Singapore, the Netherlands, and Malaysia, where similar projects have spurred industrial growth and job creation.

“Malaysia’s hub created over 80,000 jobs in its first phase alone — Ghana can achieve even greater impact, especially for the youth of Jomoro and beyond,” Dr. Aubynn noted.

Other PHDC executives, including Mr. Onasis Rosely (Deputy CEO for Operations and Technical) and Ms. Halimatu Sadia Abdulai (Deputy CEO for Finance and Administration), joined senior management in welcoming the Minister’s delegation.

Jinapor was accompanied by key officials from the Ministry, including Ing. Sulemana Abubakar, Dr. Yusif Sulemana, and Mr. Richmond Rockson, Esq.

Located in the Jomoro District of the Western Region, the Petroleum Hub Project seeks to establish Ghana as a leading downstream petroleum and petrochemical center in West Africa—serving as a catalyst for industrialization, exports, and the green energy transition.
